This pattern emerges when the left hemi-pelvis tilts forward, causing an anteriorly rotated pelvis due to an overactive chain of muscles called the Anterior Interior Chain. This adjustment impacts the orientation of the entire pelvis, including the sacrum and lower spine, creating a compensatory trunk rotation to maintain a forward-facing posture. After a challenging two years, I successfully transitioned away from this internally rotated and closed down right side, as well as the externally rotated and opened up left side. This transformation was achieved through a comprehensive approach involving neurological, psychological, breathing, strength, and muscle activation techniques. My mission revolves around equipping you with the essential knowledge and tools for optimizing muscle growth and preventing injuries. My training philosophy prioritizes the effectiveness and precise execution of exercises, coupled with intensity and proper progression.

Beyond my fitness career, I served as a dedicated police officer for a decade in the Chicago area. During my tenure, I assumed the role of fitness instructor for the police department, training officers to excel in their quarterly fitness exams and the rigorous testing for new recruits. I was also an avid martial artist and obtained a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. I was asked to audition for a fighting game in the early 1990’s called Mortal Kombat. I was eventually cast as the characters, Sub Zero, unmasked Sub Zero and Scorpion as well as all the ninja’s.

What often goes unnoticed is my personal battle with an eating disorder, which developed due to the extreme dietary demands of my professional fitness lifestyle. I struggled with binge eating, a powerful adversary that continues to challenge me to this day. However, I’ve developed effective strategies to manage this condition. There were times when I would consume an entire box of a dozen “Dove bars” in a single sitting or find myself overindulging at all-you-can-eat buffet-style restaurants, with Las Vegas being a particularly challenging environment. I would leave these experiences feeling defeated and depressed. To counteract this, I would embark on intense, hours-long workouts in the hotel gym to offset my excessive food consumption. This cycle was not only emotionally draining but also potentially life-threatening.

Native to Southern California, I was born in Los Angeles, eventually making my way to San Diego to attend the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree. I’m Mikayla Thoits, a 20 year old personal trainer from Santa Barbara. I moved down to San Diego this past year in hopes to start my own personal training business. I started playing sports at age 4 and my passion for movement and health has only progressed since. I have always been very athletic and competitive in the best way.
